“It’s great to witness the influence of recruitment in setting people on the right career path and feeling rewarded in the process”
Ever wondered what it’s like being a Recruitment Consultant?
Well, our bright and bubbly Hospitality Recruitment Consultant, Lauren, is here to answer all your questions!
Lauren, can you tell us a bit about how you got into recruitment?
I previously worked in the hospitality industry and I came to Stafffinders from a client company. Despite having only a little recruitment experience, I am now successfully sourcing hospitality professionals for our clients across Scotland. I believe my hospitality background has really helped me understand client requirements and candidates’ career needs.
Why did you enter this field?
I entered recruitment initially under an apprenticeship and then went on to work at different agencies. I enjoy recruitment as it’s very fast-paced and it allows me to observe how my efforts can help both individuals and businesses flourish.
What is a typical day in recruitment like for you?
Doesn’t exist. No two days are the same in recruitment but that’s what I enjoy about it. One day I could be out of the office all day visiting clients or at a recruitment event and the next day I could be carrying out face-to-face interviews and offering existing candidates their dream job. I love the variety within my work and I enjoy working with different individuals on a daily basis, helping them in their career journey.
Other daily responsibilities include performing business development, creating leads and calling clients to gather candidates’ interview feedback. Each day I also put on my creative hat and carefully script job ads for new roles I am currently recruiting candidates for.
What is your favourite aspect of your job as a Recruiter?
I cannot express the feeling of informing a candidate that they have been successful and have been offered a position. It’s very rewarding to know that all my hard work has resulted in a person being placed in their dream job and not to mention, a happy client who wants to continue to work with us.
It’s great to witness the influence of recruitment in setting people on the right career path and feeling rewarded in the process.
What do you enjoy most about working at Stafffinders?
At Stafffinders, we are awarded various benefits that other agencies simply don’t offer. For instance, being a Recruiter, you are generally expected to work additional hours given the nature of the job. This may mean working through your lunch hour to call candidates when they’re on their lunch, coming into the office early, working late and arranging interviews over the weekend for Monday. However, at Stafffinders our Time in Lieu (TIL) system enables us to take off the extra time we have worked, ensuring we maintain a healthy work-life balance. A perfect opportunity if you have something arranged and need to escape the office early! We also get our birthdays off which is a huge bonus.
Stafffinders also has a very supportive culture whereby everyone roots for each other and their progression. It’s nice to know that I have a supportive team who will always help me out.
What advice would you give to someone looking to join recruitment?
I guess my tip for budding recruiters would be to bring your A game as much as possible and always be flexible in your approach. Apply yourself to a specific industry and develop practical ‘on the ground’ experience which you can later take into the world of recruitment.
