Stafffinders’ involvement in the Santander Universities SME Internship Programme
Over summer, we took on four penultimate year Strathclyde University Business School students as interns over a 10-week period through the Santander Universities SME Internship Programme. They have worked on a variety of projects in our HR and Marketing departments to help improve our overall business strategy.
After a full-on 10 weeks, our interns are leaving us to return to university for their final year of study. We had a chat with Rachel, Lauren, Amy and Amir to find out what they enjoyed most about their time here.
Rachel

Rachel, our Projects Intern, has had a hand in several different projects across Stafffinders, from Marketing to HR to recruitment. Her main tasks involved optimising webpages, updating the candidate reference form and helping with a recruitment drive for the European Championships.
What did you hope to achieve?
My goal was to learn from experienced staff and apply my university knowledge in a working environment. I was also keen to improve my knowledge of SEO through helping with the company website, which I have definitely achieved.
What have you enjoyed most?
I have enjoyed working with the other interns on projects and bouncing ideas off each other to create fun events such as our charity bake sale. It has also been good to work with others in the company and find out more about recruitment and what they do.Connect with Rachel

Lauren

As our Marketing Intern, Lauren has taken part in a variety of marketing tasks including website development, search engine optimisation and social media management. She has successfully driven traffic to our website and social media channels through a variety of traffic-driving techniques.
What did you hope to achieve?
I hoped to learn as much as I could about the recruitment industry as it was not one I was familiar with beforehand. I have gained some really valuable experience and knowledge not only of marketing but also recruitment, which has allowed me to put my employment law background to use!
What have you enjoyed most?
I’ve really enjoyed being able to put my theoretical knowledge into practice in a real-life working environment. I’ve also loved getting to meet all the amazing staff here and, of course, getting to spend every lunch break with my fellow interns!
I’ve also really enjoyed the flexibility of hours offered by Stafffinders. The flexibility allowed me to maintain a good work/life balance throughout my time.Connect with Lauren

Amy

As our Human Resources intern, Amy’s main tasks were to update the staff handbook and prepare a detailed staff benefits proposal to complement our existing staff benefits. She did this by meeting regularly with all staff to discuss their thought and opinions. This ensured that the handbook and benefits were tailored to our staff’s needs.
What did you hope to achieve?
I had a clear goal to create a more inclusive working and learning environment within Stafffinders and to devise ways to improve overall performance through internal practices. My proposals have been accepted and I really feel that my hard work is valued by our CEO, Jane, and the rest of the team.
What have you enjoyed most about your time here?
I have really enjoyed working closely with all employees and getting to know how they learn and work. I have thoroughly enjoyed the amount of responsibility given and my involvement within key business projects and decisions. I have met some amazing other interns – those of whom I would have never have the pleasure of meeting at University.Connect with Amy

Amir

Amir’s focus throughout his 10 weeks has been on Stafffinders sister company, Kingpin International, a global tax recruitment company. He spent his time interviewing expats to help him write valuable content for the website and social media channels as well as working on the corporate brochure to be published this year.
What did you hope to achieve?
I just wanted to learn! That’s been my main goal here and I’ve achieved it through asking questions and taking on any opportunity to learn about new things I’ve never done before.
What have you enjoyed most about your time here?
I like the mentorship aspect of it and that there’s a lot a lot of practice for professional skills such as time management and multitasking. It’s challenging but it’s very beneficial!Connect with Amir
