A machine operator is primarily responsible for setting up and operating machinery. Likewise, they are also responsible for the smooth running of the machinery and ensuring that quality goods are being produced.

Machine operators may work with computer-controlled equipment or more mechanically based machinery. They may also focus on ensuring the smooth operating of one machine in particular or they may work on various machines.

A machine operator’s daily tasks could include:

  • Controlling the machine settings

  • Loading machines with materials

  • Conducting quality checks periodically to ensure the machinery is producing quality goods

  • Keeping a record of any defective products

A machine operator must also meet safety standards when carrying out their tasks and be a team player as they will often have to collaborate with co-workers.
