Required duties of design engineers

All design engineers have to start from a brief or an idea for a product, or from a problem that needs to be solved. Using creative and engineering skill, you'll come up with the best, most cost-effective design and undertake some hand-drawing, but mostly all the design work will be done on special computer packages.

Design engineer jobs usually work 37-40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, but may work overtime in the evenings or at weekends. The role normally entails working out of a design or drawing office, spending much time at the computer. Occasional travel to customers' sites or to manufacturing areas may be required as part of the job.

Design engineer jobs salaries range from around £30,000 to more than £43,000 per annum, although this may vary according to location and hiring organisation.

Design engineer jobs need to be creative and good problem solvers.
