Healthcare Support Worker jobs can work within hospital or community settings under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional. Healthcare Support Worker jobs can be very varied depending upon the area in which the person is employed.

The various types of duties that healthcare support worker jobs will undertake include washing and dressing of patients, feeding the patients, toileting, helping patients to mobilise and bed making. Healthcare support workers are generally employed to assist with the patient's overall comfort.

Occasionally, healthcare support worker jobs are trained by nursing staff in monitoring patients conditions i.e. taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight.

Healthcare support worker jobs may have the opportunity to obtain an NVQ qualification in care up to Level 3.  Often, if a healthcare support worker jobs obtains an NVQ level 2 this will then lead to the healthcare support worker having more responsibility in terms of the role they are fulfilling.

An NVQ level 3 will meet the minimum entry requirements for healthcare support worker jobs to enter into nurse training.
