Engineer Project Manager jobs lead large projects and have responsibility for planning, management, coordination and financial control. You'll discuss with client companies exactly project requirements and develop a detailed plan, agree the timescale for the project, costs involved and quality standards required.

Pivotal to every project will be your team, and negotiation skills will be fundamental to successfully liaise with contractors for the supply of materials and services, monitor the project constantly to make sure that it is progressing on time and on budget.

Project Management isn't all nose to the grind, you'll be required to meet clients regularly to report on the project's progress, and use well-established project management methods and computers to assist with project control. 

It's a large and growing field and project managers are employed throughout the UK by organisations in all types of work. Some may do contract work for consultancy firms.

Engineer Project Manager Responsibilities:

Some Engineer Project Manager jobs work normal office hours, while others have no set hours, and may sometimes have to work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. They are office-based, but may also travel to visit clients and to see how a project is progressing.

Experience required for an Engineering Management role

You'll require strong leadership skills, be logical, methodical and skilled at problem-solving and enjoy working to deadlines.

There are no set qualifications for entry but generally, most entrants have a degree or postgraduate qualification that includes project management.

Once in work Engineer Project Management training is on the job and project managers may work towards the qualifications of a range of professional organisations which specialise in project management. Additional Project Management NVQs/SVQs can be undertaken at Levels 4 and 5.

Continuing professional development is important. Engineer Project Managers can progress to senior management posts often going on to set up their own consultancy businesses and explore opportunities to work abroad.
