Skills in people management and an interest in financial management makes for a successful Bank Manager who will be responsible for one or more local branches of banks including Bank of Scotland, RBS and Lloyds TSB. Within their branch, they will be responsible for setting and achieving targets and managing a team. 

Bank Manager jobs involve a lot of time working with customers in person and on the phone, identifying their needs and aiming to meet or exceed them, marketing and selling the bank's products and services, e.g. mortgages, loans, share dealing and will writing, is a major part of the job.

Securing a role as a Bank Manager can be done in a number of ways. Some Bank Managers start in an entry level job in a local branch and work their way up with experience, whereas others have entered the field directly through graduate schemes offered by banks after gaining a bachelors degree or higher. Their degree is often in finance, however banks are usually open to accepting applications from most degree disciplines. It can also be useful to gain a banking internship as many banks hire their summer interns full time post-graduation.

Bank staff usually work in modern, open plan offices with interview rooms for meeting customers. Bank Managers jobs may spend about half their time out of the office.

A fully qualified Bank Manager salary usually ranges between £30,000-£40,000 dependant upon the bank and size of branch managed. Successful Bank Managers can work their way up to positions such as area manager.
