Questions to Ask in an Interview

First of all, congratulations on getting through to this stage in the recruitment process. Did you know that only 20% of applicants receive an interview? You are one step closer to obtaining that dream job! But now you must prepare for the interview.

An interview is a two-way street. It is recommended to ask a few questions at the end of your interview, as prompted by the person conducting. Asking them shows that you have been listening and that you are genuinely interested in both the company and the role. Remember, this is your chance to find out any information about the company that they may not display on their website or any further information about the role.

Candidate asking questions in an interview

Here is a list of questions that you may want to ask in your interview:

1. Can you tell me more about the day-to-day responsibilities of this job?

2. Describe the working environment and culture of the company.

3. What do you like most about working here?

4. What do you think are the most important qualities for someone to excel in this role?

5. What are the biggest opportunities facing the company at this moment?

6. If I was offered the job, what preparation could I do?

7. What is the typical career path for someone in this role?

8. What are the next steps in the interview process?

9. When should I expect to hear from you?

Employer answering interview questions

Top tip: Avoid questions regarding salary, holidays and the benefits of the job. You can negotiate these once a formal job offer has been made.

As questions will usually be asked at the end of the interview, make sure you always finish up positively. Smile, shake hands and thank the interviewer for their time. This is your last impression to make on them so ensure it is a genuine and friendly one. Even if it didn’t go as well as you hoped, remember that the interviewer liked you enough from your application to meet you – and this itself is a good sign.

Once you have finished your interview, remember that the recruitment process still isn’t over. There are several things you can do to strengthen your chances of getting the job.
