What Does an Executive Assistant Do?

An Executive Assistant (EA) provides high-level administrative support to senior leaders such as Chief Executives, Managing Directors, or Chairpersons. The role requires exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with complete confidentiality. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Managing complex diaries, arranging meetings, and coordinating travel itineraries — often internationally, including visa arrangements.

  • Preparing and distributing board meeting materials, taking minutes, and tracking follow-up actions.

  • Acting as the first point of contact, screening calls, emails, and correspondence on behalf of the executive.

  • Creating professional presentations and reports using Microsoft Office and PowerPoint.

  • Conducting research and compiling background materials to support strategic decision-making.

  • Liaising with internal departments, board members, and external stakeholders.

  • Overseeing or mentoring junior administrative staff, including PAs and office secretaries.

  • Managing confidential projects, events, and other personal or business tasks as required.

An EA role is dynamic and fast-paced, ideal for individuals who thrive in a position of trust and responsibility while supporting business leaders at the highest level.
