  • Ability to assess loads and judge distances accurately.

Experience working in industrial or warehouse environments is beneficial, though not always required, as many employers provide full training.


How to Become a Forklift Truck Driver

You don’t always need previous experience to begin a career as a Forklift Truck Driver, training and certification are typically provided.

To qualify, you’ll usually need:

  • RTITB or ITSSAR forklift training (or a willingness to complete this).

  • A valid forklift licence, such as Counterbalance or Reach Truck, depending on the vehicle type.

  • Good physical coordination and awareness of workplace safety.

  • A clean health record, as some employers require a medical assessment.

Training typically takes three to five days, after which you’ll gain your forklift certification and can begin work in a variety of settings.
