How to Become a Dental Nurse

To work as a Dental Nurse in the UK, you’ll need to complete a recognised qualification, such as the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing. Many trainees complete this through an apprenticeship or college course while gaining practical experience in a dental practice. Once qualified, you must register with the General Dental Council (GDC) to practise legally. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is also required to maintain your registration and stay updated with best practices in patient care and dental hygiene.


With experience, Dental Nurses can progress into senior or specialist roles such as Dental Practice Manager, Oral Health Educator, or Dental Hygienist.
