How to Become a Joiner

To secure a Carpenter job, you’ll need strong practical skills, a good eye for detail, and a solid understanding of construction principles.


Education and Training

There are several routes into the profession: completing a Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship with a construction company, earning an NVQ or Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (Levels 2–3) through a college or training provider, starting as a labourer or trainee carpenter to gain on-site experience.

Employers typically look for carpenters with:
