Finance Manager | Temporary | Edinburgh


The job: Lead financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, effective budget management, statutory compliance, and the smooth running of key finance processes that support the preservation of Scotland's heritage.


The person: A detail-oriented finance manager with proven experience in financial management, payroll, budgeting, and compliance, who enjoys working collaboratively and making a meaningful contribution within the charity sector.


Responsibilities in your new role as Finance Manager

As our Finance Manager, you will be instrumental in overseeing the day-to-day finances of the Society, ensuring the utmost financial probity across all activities. Your remit will include:


  • Prepare financial reports for staff and Council meetings
  • Produce end-of-year accounts and support the annual audit process
  • Manage statutory reporting, including submissions to OSCR and HMRC
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage budgets
  • Process payroll and administer pension schemes
  • Manage subscriptions, Direct Debits, and Gift Aid claims
  • Maintain and develop the organisation's membership database
  • Ensure accurate financial records and compliance with relevant regulations


Your personality, experience and qualifications

We are seeking an individual with demonstrable experience in financial management, particularly with proficiency in SAGE, and a proven track record in budget creation, development, and monitoring. You will also bring: 


  • Proven experience processing payroll and managing pension administration
  • Strong membership database management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proactive, analytical approach with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrable knowledge of finance legislation, regulations and best practices
  • Committed to the organisation's values and ethos
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when required
  • Experience managing projects and prioritising workloads effectively
  • Ability to work independently, creatively and flexibly within a small team
  • Previous experience within the Scottish heritage sector or similar is desirable
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Confident communicating and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
