As data privacy and cybersecurity become top business priorities, Data Protection Officer jobs are among the fastest-growing roles in the UK. With the introduction of the UK Data Protection Act (2018) and the EU’s GDPR, organisations of all sizes are seeking skilled professionals to ensure compliance and protect sensitive information.

Whether you’re an experienced DPO or looking to step up from a compliance or legal background, we’ll help you find the ideal role to advance your career in this high-demand field.

What Does a Data Protection Officer Do?

A Data Protection Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that an organisation processes personal data responsibly, securely, and in line with legal obligations. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior management, you’ll oversee compliance with GDPR, manage data protection policies, and serve as the main contact point for data-related enquiries. Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring internal compliance with data protection laws and policies.

  • Advising the organisation on its GDPR and UK Data Protection Act obligations.

  • Overseeing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).

  • Maintaining data processing records and company privacy statements.

  • Providing training and guidance on data protection best practices.

  • Acting as the contact point for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

  • Managing data breach investigations and implementing preventive measures.

  • Collaborating with IT and security teams on data migration and retention policies.

This role requires both technical understanding and the ability to communicate complex legislation clearly to non-specialist stakeholders, a skill highly valued by employers.
