A Baker is someone who specialises in preparing and baking a variety of baked goods, such as bread, cakes, pastries, and cookies. They work in bakeries, restaurants, cafes, or as part of larger food production facilities. The job of a Baker involves several key tasks including weighing and measuring ingredients, and mixing them in the right proportions to make dough or batter. They operate baking equipment, such as ovens, mixers, and proofing cabinets, ensuring that temperatures and baking times are correct for each type of product. Bakers shape dough into loaves or other shapes before baking and add fillings, frostings, or toppings as needed. They may also create new recipes or modify existing ones, experimenting with ingredients and techniques to improve flavour, texture, and appearance. Bakers must follow health and safety standards, ensuring that all products meet quality and sanitation regulations.

To get a Baker job, you typically need a high school qualification. Many Bakers learn their skills through on-the-job training or by attending a culinary school or technical college. Courses in nutrition and food safety can also be helpful. Bakers should have a passion for baking and an understanding of ingredients, recipes, and baking techniques. They must have physical stamina, as the job can be physically demanding, requiring long hours on their feet. A successful Baker possesses creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work quickly and efficiently to produce high-quality baked goods.
