What you will get in your new role
This is a temporary, event-based role in Edinburgh for a conference taking place on the 28th and 29th of October. The working hours are from 8:00 AM to 17:00 PM each day, offering a pay rate of £11.44 per hour, with holiday pay accrued.
Responsibilities within your new role as the Conference Steward
Your key responsibilities will include familiarising yourself with the fire exits, toilets, and lunch setup, while ensuring ongoing communication with the Chairperson of the conference. You will assist with any PowerPoint issues, liaising with the onsite technical team, and keep a clipboard with the day's timetable for reference. You'll also manage venue controls like heating and air conditioning, monitor fire alarm tests, and provide attendees with the Wi-Fi password and car parking code if needed. After breaks and lunch, you will ensure cups and dishes are cleared from tables, and maintain a constant supply of water for speakers and delegates.
Your personality, experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, enabling professional interaction with delegates and speakers, alongside excellent interpersonal abilities for effective communication with the Chairperson and event staff. General administrative knowledge, basic PowerPoint skills, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks while staying organised in a busy environment are essential.
