Quality Managers oversee the provision of quality assurance/quality control resources and procedures required to manage and control the execution of the project from detailed design through to commissioning/start-up. Quality Managers will also create an effective work environment within the project team to ensure teamwork, staff development and motivation.
Quality Managers manage the quality assurance and quality control staff on all worksites and ensure project milestones are achieved. They establish and manage the project quality control process including audits and reviews etc, ensuring the project objectives are met.
A key responsibility is to ensure follow up and appropriate close out of all review actions items and contribute to the development of detailed design and equipment/material procurement and ensure constructability of design.
Why is the role of the Quality Manager important?
Quality Managers prepare a project quality assurance plan to govern all phases of the project and maintain good communications with the relevant regulatory bodies such as the asset holders and Government agencies, and ensure that all required statutory permits and approvals are obtained on sites. Quality Managers ensure that the plant is constructed in accordance with the approved installation/erection procedures, method statements and risk assessments is another key task that will be undertaken. It is also their duty to ensure that the plant is inspected and tested in accordance with approved inspection & test procedures, relevant codes and standards. Quality managers provide early feedback to the team leader on any issues, potential delays or interface problems.
