Project managers lead large projects and have responsibility for planning, management, co-ordination and financial control.
Project managers will discuss with their client exactly what is required and then develop a detailed plan, agree the timescale for the project, costs involved and quality standards required.
Project manager will select and lead a project team, negotiate with contractors for the supply of materials and services, monitor the project constantly to make sure that it is progressing on time and on budget.
They will also meet clients regularly to report on the project's progress, and use well-established project management methods and computers to assist with project control.
Some jobs involve working normal office hours, while others have no set hours, and may sometimes have to work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. Project manager jobs are office based, but may also travel to visit clients and to see how a project is progressing.
How much does a Project Manager earn?
Roles can include IT Project Manager, Industrial Project Development Manager and Engineering Project Manager. Due to the vary roles available, the salary may vary greatly role to role. The average slaary of a project manager is £29,000. In an entry level project manager job, the salary can start at £20,000 and rise to as high as £44,000 with experience.
