PR Account Manager Jobs

PR Account Manager jobs works within a wider team and aims to influence public opinion or behaviour, on behalf of organisations. By generating positive news coverage, achieving product placement without payment in broadcast, print and new media, and placing spokespeople as commentators, PR Account Manager jobs work to proactively promote the profile of their clients.

PR Account Managers liaise on a daily basis with the client to update and report on the success of the publicity, monitor the media including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts and blogs for opportunities for clients; researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media; promoting news stories and features to the media and event management, including press conferences and promotional events. 

Role responsibilities for PR Account Manager Jobs

As PR Account Manager, you will build and manage a good reputation for an organisation in the eyes of the public and the media. This involves a number of tasks including:

  • Conducting research
  • Writing reports and speeches
  • Using social media, email and web pages
  • Preparing press releases
  • Answering enquiries
You must develop good contacts with the media and encourage them to cover the organisation's news. This means that you are often responsible for activities such as:
  • liaising with the media
  • writing magazine and website features
  • making sure the organisation or client has a high profile in social media
  • producing promotional videos and films or multimedia presentations
  • researching public opinion and market trends
  • monitoring news stories

To become a PR Account Manager, you'll need:

  • skills in negotiation, writing and public speaking
  • the ability to work in a team
  • to be creative
  • to be able to manage your time
Most new entrants are graduates. Training is sometimes provided on-the-job, and you might be able to study part-time for professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
