Legal Trainee Administrator Jobs 

Legal Trainee Administrators provide office junior administrative support in a legal office environment. Tasks will vary depending on the level of responsibility and the type of employer, however, it is likely to involve producing neat and accurate word processed documents for reports and letters,  being responsible for stationery stocks and office equipment, welcoming visitors and arranging refreshments, answering the phone, managing post and email and maintaining filing systems, both manual and electronic.

Most trainee administrators work standard office hours in the legal environment from Monday to Friday.  Flexitime and shift work is also possible with some employers. Temporary contracts are common and often lead to permanent employment.

Legal Trainee Administrator salaries range from around £7,000 to £10,000 a year.

The ideal candidate for this role would be a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, accurate in their work, with a good understanding of grammar and spelling, good at working in a team, able to meet deadlines and work under pressure, discrete when handling sensitive information and interested in business.  

What do you need to become a Legal Administrator?

There are no formal entry requirements, although some employers may expect GCSEs/S grades (A-C/1-3) in English and Administration. Good keyboard skills are essential and additional computer knowledge, particularly of Word.

Companies generally support personal development of Legal Trainee Administrators by offering a combination of in-house and external courses, and the opportunity to work closely with experienced members of staff. There is also a wide range of vocational qualifications available in this area.

There are good opportunities for Legal Trainee Administrators to progress to wider administrative or secretarial roles. Senior Legal positions may also be available after specialised training. In some companies, it might be possible to move into a specialist area, such as Conveyancing or Court Work or Legal Cashiering.
