An Industrial Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily production work and operations within a factory or manufacturing organisation. They will provide overall management and direction of projects and ensure that all production projects are being built in compliance with the assigned schedule and within the final budget.
Industrial Operation Managers also assist in business development and represent the company in client meetings. Industrial Operation Managers assist in strategy meetings, plan, organise, and staff key positions for/through subordinate project managers and supervise the work of project managers when assigned.
Key responsibilities of an Industrial Manager
The main responsibilities of an Industrial Manager include managing planning activity to ensure effective use of resources and delivery of service is achieved within budget. In addition, Industrial Managers are also responsible for the health and safety of the operation, maintaining a programme of subordinate development and ensuring all key performance indicators are achieved.
Other duties include:
- Delegate duties out to the workforce utilising appropriate resources and equipment
- Ensure that all production work is complete in a timely manner and within the agreed budget
- Monitor the production workforce to assess performance and safety
- Play a key role in the selection and hiring process to build the team
- Liaise with other departments to ensure optimum communication levels between the business
How do I qualify to become an Industrial Manager
As an Operations Manager, you should be able to work at both strategic and tactical levels, have good leadership skills and be able to manage, motivate and develop a team. They will be experienced in health and safety issues hold a National Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and have good communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
Organisations will desire professionals to have obtained at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of expertise. You may also be able to work your way up the career ladder by starting as a production operative and evolve through on the job training. Industrial Managers should also possess excellent time management skills in order to effectively manage a workforce and demonstrate proficient problem-solving skills to keep the production process running smoothly.
