The front office manager of a hotel is responsible for the smooth running of the front desk and for all the receptionists working on that desk.  Depending on the size and structure of the hotel, front office managers may also find themselves responsible for the reservations, housekeeping or even restaurant departments.

Being the front office manager, you are then the guest's first point of contact with the hotel, so the responsibility to make a good impression is considerable.  Front office managers will be responsible for rotas, budgeting, forecasting, upselling, staff training and inductions as well as ensuring everyone on the front desk is aware of health and safety procedures.

How to get a Front Office Manager job:

Due to the varied nature of the front office manager job, it is a good stepping stone towards the general manager position as you are heavily involved in the operation of most other departments within the hotel.

Ideally, you will have preferably both reception and reservations experience combined with an ability to manage and direct staff and to remain calm under pressure.

As of 2020, the average salary in Scotland is around £22,300, though this depends on venue size and location.
