Restaurant Manager Jobs

Restaurant manager jobs work in hotels, restaurants and fast-food outlets. 

Restaurant manager jobs involves ensuring customers and staff are happy and that the restaurant is operating efficiently and profitably.  Leadership and management skills are important qualities for the role of restaurant manager ensuring a motivated workforce to supply a quality service.   Restaurant manager jobs will be in charge of all he/she surveys, until entering the kitchen, at which point authority normally concedes to the head chef.  

The role of the restaurant manager jobs is to ensure that front of house operations run smoothly and professionally. The responsibility for building a team of waiters, sommeliers and bar staff belongs to the restaurant manager.  This team of staff will normally greet and tend to the needs and requirements of guests however a restaurant manager often welcomes guests and escorts them to their table personally. Often the restaurant manager jobs will also organise table reservations. 

Restaurant manager jobs should have a good knowledge of all dishes and wines, and must be able to divest this knowledge to those working with them.  Restaurant manager jobs will also be tasked with ordering all supplies for the front of house, from wines and spirits to napkins and restaurant manager jobs must ensure that all bills and gratuities are reconciled on a daily basis.

Restaurant manager jobs should be able to anticipate where problems might arise before they do, and will also be expected to deal with any customer complaints.

Top restaurant manager jobs will be able to recognise regular patrons to the restaurant and anticipate their likes/dislikes, and will have a heightened sense of diplomacy, discretion, and patience. 

Restaurant manager jobs duties will normally include:

  • Health & Safety

Restaurant manager jobs have to be prepared to work long days and unsocial hours.  Salary rates for restaurant manager jobs will be dependent on the type, size and location of the employer but in general a restaurant manager can earn upwards of £16,000.
