Hotel Receptionist Jobs

Hotel receptionist jobs provide the first impression guests have of a hotel.  Hotel receptionist jobs includes greeting guests and checking them in and out of the hotel, however a hotel receptionist jobs may also involve a large amount of administration work including taking reservations, allocating rooms, record keeping, passing on messages, compiling bills to name just a few.

Hotel receptionist jobs will have a great deal of contact with guests organising special requirements, dealing with requests for taxis, theatre tickets, information about the local area and taking valuables for safe keeping. 

Hotel Receptionist jobs will be required to use a reservations computer system in all but the smallest hotels, although a hotel receptionist will often also use word processors as well as fax machines and switchboards. In large hotels receptionist jobs may work as part of a specialist team dealing with certain aspects of reception work, however in smaller hotels the hotel receptionist may handle a very large range of tasks.

Hotel receptionist jobs must also liaise constantly with the housekeeping department  to know which rooms are occupied.

Hotel receptionist jobs should maintain a calm, courteous and professional demeanour at all times and should:

  • Be friendly and cheerful
  • Enjoy interacting with other people
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be patient and helpful

Hotel receptionist jobs involves a good deal of administration so would suit a candidate who is well organised and who has an administrative flair.

Hotel receptionist jobs salary will depend on the size, type and location of the hotel however the starting salary for hotel receptionist jobs is around £15,500 with experienced hotel receptionists earning around £18,500.

Hours of work may vary and can include days, nights, shifts, weekends and public holidays.   Part-time work may be available which is paid pro-rate or at an hourly rate.
