Hotel General Managers oversee every department and is the focal point for staff, the paying guests and the business community. Invariably, most hotel general manager jobs call for someone with a background in the operational running of hotels and will understand how each of the big 4 departments, traditionally front of house, food and beverage, conference and banqueting and housekeeping operate successfully.
Hotel Managers will be responsible for building a senior management team to take control of all issues on the floor. Managers within any hotel will regularly meet with the departmental heads to ensure that each is playing their part in making the property run successfully, and in the best interests of the paying guests.
In smaller properties, they will be more involved in the actual running of the business, but at the other end of the scale, they become an ambassador for the brand and spends a significant amount of time on selling and marketing the property to national and international businesses.
What is the salary for a Hotel Manager?
The salary for a hotel manager varies greatly throughout the UK as it depends on the size of the hotel as well as location. Small hotels may give a salary of £35,000 wherease a large hotel in central London could have you earning around £100,000. If the role requires you to live in the hotel then this will also increase the salary level. They may have to work unsocialable hours such as nights and weekends and the shifts may require long working hours.
