Head Chef Jobs

A head chef should thrive in fast paced, high-pressure environments while keeping a cool head and delegating effectively to get the job done. Typically, salaries fall within the range of £26,000-£33,000 per annum for head chef jobs in Scotland.

What does a Head Chef do?

• Ordering and managing stock, ensuring high quality and healthy profit margins
• Overseeing all produce that leaves the kitchen
• Managing staff rotas
• Training kitchen staff to use and look after equipment
• Understanding necessary Health and Safety regulations
• Monitoring stock rotation to guarantee minimal wastage and freshness of food
• Contribute creatively towards new menu ideas
• Inspire and motivate all kitchen staff to exceed company standards.


There is no ‘typical working week' for a successful chef at the helm of a busy kitchen. Working late nights and weekends are par for the course - as is overtime during busy periods. Dedication and passion for the job are a must!
