Head Chef JobsA successful head chef must be the captain of their kitchen. All fine details must be looked after to ensure that their space is run with the precision of a tight ship. A real passion for food and providing a top-notch customer experience is essential to become a head chef.
What does a Head Chef do?• Ordering and managing stock, ensuring high quality and healthy profit margins
• Overseeing all produce that leaves the kitchen
• Managing staff rotas
• Training kitchen staff to use and look after equipment
• Understanding necessary Health and Safety regulations
• Monitoring stock rotation to guarantee minimal wastage and freshness of food
• Contribute creatively towards new menu ideas
• Inspire and motivate all kitchen staff to exceed company standards.
There is no ‘typical working week' for a successful chef at the helm of a busy kitchen. Working late nights and weekends are par for the course - as is overtime during busy periods. Dedication and passion for the job are a must!
