Mechanical Engineers use the application of physical principles to the creation of useful devices, objects and machines. Principles such as heat, force and the conservation of mass and energy are used to analyse static and dynamic physical systems, in contributing to the design of things such as automobiles, aircraft, and other vehicles, heating and cooling systems, household appliances, industrial equipment and machinery, weapons systems, etc.

Employment of Mechanical Engineers concentrated primarily in the manufacturing sector and tends to involve the design and maintenance of machinery and machine tools. However, many new opportunities are arising in the emerging fields of biotechnology, materials science and nanotechnology.

Duties and responsibilities for Mechanical Engineer Jobs

Duties could specifically involve identification and design validation of process equipment, the creation of equipment specifications and datasheets for procurement purposes based on customer specifications.

Mechanical Engineers will also interface with vendors and third-party inspectors or classification societies to ensure specification compliance, checking of drawings and participation in design reviews and be responsible for integrating the mechanical equipment into the overall design.
