Transport Clerk Jobs

Transport clerk jobs are responsible for managing the administration in a transport office and all transport clerk jobs will report to the transport manager. They will be responsible for dealing with the day-to-day transport enquiries and administration.

The main responsibilities of transport clerks includes dealing with all telephone enquiries from both internal and external sources, complaint handling, data entry, dispatching, order processing, filing and delivery scheduling.  Transport clerk jobs will also provide support to the transport manager as and when required.

Transport clerk jobs normally works on a rotating shift pattern working 5 days out of 7 (predominantly Monday to Friday). The role of transport clerks could be office based within the transport department.

Experience and skills of a Transport Clerk

Transport clerks should have excellent PC skills, be a good communicator, be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.  They will have good administration skills and have a confident telephone manner.  There are no formal qualifications required to be a transport clerk, but you should have good qualifications in English and maths.

Transport clerk jobs may be able to progress to a transport manager, but a CPC National will be required. The CPC International may also be required depending on the individual operation.  Transport clerk jobs can earn around £18,000 - £20,000 a year. Transport clerk jobs may get shift allowances that may increase earnings.
