General Foreman Jobs

Foreman jobs involve the supervision and coordination of workers, mainly within Construction and Trade industries. Foreman are responsible for ensuring workers do their job skilfully, efficiently and on schedule. Foreman roles require individuals who are capable of quick thinking, as this will enable them to make correct, on site decisions. Foreman roles require candidates to have excellent interpersonal and team working ability.

To become a General Foreman, a craftsman must illustrate an above average knowledge of all facets of a particular trade and do noticeably good work consistently. Foremen should have the same basic aptitude and interests as those working in the craft being supervised, plus additional reading, writing and math skills. The ability to motivate workers and communicate with them and superiors is essential.

The main duties of a Foreman are as follows:

  • Managing workforces to maintain high levels of moral, ensure effective task delegation and monitoring projects so they’re completed to a high standard.
  • Implementing and enforcing health and safety measures throughout work areas
  • Lease between senior managers and workforces to coordinate expectations
  • Ordering and reordering of raw materials when required

Required skills and career trajectory

Foremen should have a broad working knowledge of a craft; must be able to read and visualise objects from blueprints; and should have an eye for precise detail. Successful foreman will also demonstrate an above average knowledge of all trade facets, plus additional reading, writing, and math skills. Foreman work will often require presence on construction sites; thus, candidates must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
