Tax Assistant Jobs

Tax Assistants working within the Tax Department have an interesting and mixed tax role covering areas of personal tax, corporate tax and VAT.

Tax assistants duties are likely to include preparation of personal tax returns and P11Dds; calculating the tax liabilities for companies; assisting in running a PAYE payroll and preparing end of year forms P35 and P11Ds. Tax accountant assistants will also be involved in the preparation of construction industry returns; providing administrative support relative to the filing of tax returns and estimated tax payments, preparing property tax returns and generally corresponding with HMRC and clients over the telephone and in person.

Assistants will be responsible for managing your own portfolio of clients and adhering to compliance issues.

How do I become a Tax Assistant?

The candidate will ideally have practical experience working for the Inland Revenue or for a professional accountancy firm, or may have prior experience as an administrative assistant. They will also have good organisational and analytical skills.

The average salary in the UK for a tax assistant is £35,000.

If you wish to study for the CTA in the future it will be encouraged and supported by most firms. They may be given the opportunity to develop their taxation skills and might be offered study support towards ATT, ACA or CTA.
