Medical Receptionist Jobs

Medical Receptionist Jobs are responsible for being the first point of contact for patients or hospital visitors when they arrive at a healthcare centre. Being an effective Medical Receptionist means providing a welcome to patients at the healthcare facility while keeping track of arranging and cancelling appointments for patients. A medical receptionist will also answer the telephone within the healthcare centre, passing any relevant messages on or dealing with queries where necessary.

The responsibilities extend from filing medical records, taking requests for repeat prescriptions, assisting all visitors to the healthcare facility to keeping the reception area tidy.

There are no formal qualifications required to become a medical receptionist within a GP surgery, health centre or hospital, but the skills required do include first-class organisational skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Within a medical environment, receptionists should also possess an interest in working with people, a calm and sympathetic manner and a general interest in health issues. Health centres and GP surgeries use a specific healthcare computer system, normally G-PASS, to track patients appointments and records. Systems within hospitals and other healthcare facilities may vary, however, they must understand these systems fully in order to fulfill their role.
