The main role of a Dental Hygienist is to provide dental patients with advice and treatment regarding their oral care. Dental Hygienists play an important role in dental practices, often working in conjunction with Dentists and other members of the healthcare team.
The Main duties performed by Dental Hygienists involve the following:
Scale, clean and polish patients’ teeth using a range of dental equipment.
Applying coatings and sealants to teeth, helping to prevent decay.
Providing patients with advice regarding their dental hygiene routine.
Building positive relationships with clients.
Work closely alongside other dental practitioners to ensure the correct treatment is provided to patients.
To become a Dental Hygienist, candidates will require to register with the General Dental Council. To register, Dental Hygienists must achieve a relevant degree or diploma in oral health science, dental hygiene or another related programme. As well as this, dental hygienists must possess great interpersonal and communication skills, alongside a compassionate attitude toward patients.
