Welding jobs involve the working of metal materials, using high heats and complex machinery, to repair or assemble metal structures in accordance with the needs of their client. Welding is deemed as a highly skilled trade, with jobs often requiring the use of various welding techniques, such as Arc, MIG, TIG and Stick Welding. Welders are employed across various industries, including Construction, Civil engineering and Manufacturing industries.


The duties of a welder may vary depending on projects; however, their main responsibilities will include the following;

  • Operate and maintain complex welding machinery

  • Follow and interpret blueprints, drawings and plans to ensure product specifications are met

  • Fuse metal materials to create and repair structures


Welding roles require candidates to have a strong hand to eye coordination and high levels of concentration. Welding jobs may also require candidates to work as part of a team, so communication and team working skills are also important. Welders must have a strong grasp of health and safety protocol due to the nature of the work. The average working week for welders consists of 35-40 hours of work per week, with overtime sometimes required. The average salary for welder jobs ranges from £18,000-£30,000 depending on experience.
