Spring In Their Steps
An article from Milngavie & Bearsden Herald dated Friday 6th April 2007
A total of 263 runners of all ages turned out for Stafffinders’ 5K fundraising race and 1K dash at Mugdock Country Park on Sunday.
The runners, competing in glorious sunshine, raised much needed cash for the British Red Cross.
The 1K children’s dash was held before the main event and everyone who took part had a fantastic time.
And the day has a real carnival atmosphere with lots of runners turning up in costume – there was even a prize for the best dressed competitor.
All runners limbered up with a communal warm up prior to the start of the 5K and were greeted with a medal and goody-bag at the finish line.
And as a special treat, athletes could opt for a relaxing massage from physiotherapist Nicola Williamson and Scott Morton, with all proceeds going to charity. And with Tai Chi in the Walled Garden, Cheeko the clown painting faces and making balloon animals for the kids, as well as a raffle with top prizes, there really was something for everyone.
Jane Wylie-Roberts, managing director of Stafffinders, said: “We’re delighted both with the turnout and with the sums raised for the British Red Cross – it was always our intention to create something more than just a race and the numbers that got involved in every aspect of the day show that we achieved that goal”.
“We’re thrilled to have helped to raise so much for such a worthwhile cause – we believe it’s of paramount importance that corporate Scotland uses its time and resources to support such charitable work.
