Welder Jobs

Welder jobs involve joining sections or plates of metal together by applying intense heat.

Welder jobs use one or more methods of welding, which include some welder jobs using oxyacetylene welding - hand welder jobs use a mixture of oxygen and acetylene. Some welder jobs deal with arc welding - hand welder jobs use electric arc equipment and a welding rod and some welders deal with inert gas welding using nitrogen or carbon dioxide - this is very skilled work.

Welder jobs must be able to spot errors and correct them immediately. The quality of the weld depends on the welder's skill.

Welder jobs usually include working a 37 to 39-hour basic week, which may include shifts for some welders. However, for most welder jobs overtime is common, and most welder jobs work much longer hours. Welder jobs may include working in factories or workshops, or in a wide range of locations on site - some welder jobs may work outdoors.

Welder jobs start as trainee or a welders apprentices and salaries start at around £12,000.  Skilled welder jobs, specialist welders can earn up to £40,000.

Welder jobs require good hand-to-eye co-ordination, good concentration, the ability to work unsupervised, the ability to work in a team.

Welder jobs include working for civil engineering, engineering construction, agricultural engineering, shipbuilding, vehicle manufacture and repair, and many welders can work abroad.

The best way to train for welder jobs is to train is through a Foundation or Advanced Modern Apprenticeship.
