Transport Clerk
A transport clerk is responsible for managing the administration in a transport office and all transport clerks will report to the transport manager. A transport clerk is responsible for dealing with the day-to-day transport enquiries and administration.
The main responsibilities of a transport clerk include dealing with all telephone enquiries from both internal and external sources, complaint handling, data entry, dispatching, order processing, filing and delivery scheduling.
A transport clerk will also provide support to the transport manager as and when required.
A transport clerk normally works on a rotating shift pattern working 5 days out of 7 (predominantly Monday to Friday). The role of a transport clerk could be office based within the transport department.
You should have excellent PC skills, be a good communicator, able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. A transport clerk will have good administration skills and have a confident telephone manner.
There are no formal qualifications required to be a transport clerk, but you should have a good ability in English and maths.
A transport clerk may be able to progress to a transport manager, but a CPC National will be required. The CPC International may also be required depending on the individual operation.
A transport clerk can earn around £13,000 to £16,000 a year and may get shift allowances that may increase earnings.
