Structural Engineer
A structural engineer will be an expert in the behaviour and design of structures. Structural engineering deals with structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures, structural dynamics and mechanics, concrete technology, computational mechanics, structural safety and other related work.
Structural engineering is the field of civil engineering particularly concerned with the design of load-bearing structures. In practice, it is largely the implementation of mechanics to the design of structures, such as buildings, bridges, walls (including retaining walls), dams, tunnels etc. A structural engineer will first conceive a structure, considering strength, form and function. Then they will choose appropriate materials - such as steel, concrete, brick or timber - calculating and checking to ensure that the construction will remain safe and serviceable for the length of its intended lifetime.
Key responsibilities include management, risk assessment, design, research and setting standards for design and safety.
