Tax Assistant
The job of a Tax Assistant working within the Tax Department offers an interesting mixed tax role covering areas of personal tax, corporate tax and VAT.
The tax assistant’s job is likely to include preparation of personal tax returns and P11ds; calculating the tax liabilities for companies; assisting in running a PAYE payroll and preparing end of year forms P35 and P11Ds. Tax Assistants will also be involved in the preparation of construction industry returns; providing administrative support relative to the filing of tax returns and estimated tax payments, preparing property tax returns and generally corresponding with HMRC and clients over the telephone and in person.
As a Tax Assistant you will be responsible for managing your own portfolio of clients and adhering to compliance issues.
Job Requirements
Tax Assistant candidates will ideally have:
• practical experience working for the Inland Revenue or for a professional accountancy firm, or may have prior experience as an administrative assistant
• Good organizational and analytical skills
Career/Job Prospects
If you wish to study for the CTA in the future it will be encouraged and supported by most firms. Tax Assistants will be given the opportunity to develop their taxation skills and might be offered study support towards ATT, ACA or CTA.
