Management Accountant

The role of Management Accountant involves building relationships with key people across the business and having a thorough understanding of the business’s operations.  Obtaining historical or recent information, assembling information in the form of graphs, charts and reports to provide to management to assist them with decision-making are all key requirements from a Management Accountant.  A typical Management Accountant role will include, preparing the profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statement, leading a team of staff responsible for the production of management accounts, preparing budgets and forecasts including analysis of trends, variances and key performance indicators, consolidating reports from subsidiary companies for head office, reviewing monthly/quarterly/annual accounts and comparing actual to budgeted results.  A Management Accountant would also provide support to the Finance Manager and assist with business plans or ad hoc projects, preparing income and expenditure accounts and VAT returns.

Job requirements
A Management Accountant must
• be Part-qualified ACCA/CIMA
• possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
• be enthusiastic and a good team player
• have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• be able to establish relationships quickly with key contacts within the business
• have sound commercial awareness

Job qualifications
Typically Accounts Assistants apply for a Management Accountant’s role. Applicants usually have already worked within a finance department and gained good all round book-keeping skills, and are now seeking the next step up on the career ladder to broaden their experience.
