Cost Accountant

The job of a Cost Accountant involves product costing; analyzing direct and indirect costs to determine proper allocation for recording cost elements; developing and improving methods for calculating and controlling costs; compiling cost data for use in developing budget proposals, yield and variance analysis and reporting on key performance indicators.

The Cost Accountant is responsible for preparing various cost and key management inventory schedules; supporting annual physical inventory processes; reconciling packaging inventory activity and assisting in annual audit of cycle counting results. Responsibilities also include control of stock book and journal entry inputs; coordination of month end reports for distribution and other projects as assigned. 

Job Locations
Cost Accountants are normally required within manufacturing companies where there is a high volume of output products.

Job Requirements
Cost Accountants will ideally have:
• a strong, outgoing personality as they will routinely have interactions with plant or senior managers
• strong verbal and written communication skills
• good attention to detail
• the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team setting
• a self-starter attitude
• the ability to analyse, compare and interpret figures
• proficiency in Microsoft Office

Job Qualifications
Applicants for a Cost Accountant role will normally possess a 4 year degree in Accounting or Finance with 3-5 years experience in cost accounting.
Candidates are likely to be either Part-qualified/Qualified ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience.
